Jethro Tull

We spoke with Doane Perry, drummer of Jethro Tull. He’s worked with Bette Middler, Lou Reed, Todd Rundgren, and Pat Benatar, just to name a few. We interviewed Doane while Jethro Tull was on their 07/08 World Tour stop in Toronto. They play in select Canadian and American cities in late-2007/early-2008.

  6. Josh M. Says:

Awesome vid! I love the Tull’s!

  7. Tommy Says:

The musicians in Tull are/were always top notch. And Ian is a great songwriter/musician. But for at least the last 10 years he’s become, sadly, a parody of himself. The real-life Spinal Tap. Always plays the same songs, tells the same jokes, and worst of all, his singing is embarrassingly PATHETIC. Plus Tull has not put out a new studio album in NINE, yes, NINE years. Ian loves one thing over everything else: M-O-N-E-Y.

  8. Rick Says:

    Tommy
Suprised you took time to listen to the interview.

  9. Quissaro Says:

Tull put out the xmas album in 2003, pardon me, but that was recorded in a studio, so i think it qualifies as a studio album, with some at least 7 or 8 brand new songs, Thomas Giarmo needs to check his facts,

  10. Rick Says:

    Quissaro….

You are correct….and Rupi’s Dance and the Orchestral DVD and CD.

  11. Andy Says:

Tommy, i love Ians singing voice. now and then. its unique.

  12. michele mellone Says:

Yes it’probably hard for Ian to sing like years ago,but he also tries to compose music and songs suitable for his voice in order to perform them on stage,in the last album like Roots or Dot Com.
Happy Christmas and New Year to Everybody.
    Michele.

  13. Rick Says:

I was listening to my copy of Aqualung Live today that I got free at a 2005 concert. You find these songs on the original 1971 recording but not the jewels you find on this re recorded edition. I read in the insert that Artist and Publishing royalities were going to charities for the homeless.
Great interview with Doane. I just saw them in Atlanta on Dec 7 and they were outstanding. Doane is one great dummer.
    Merry Christmas to all…….

  14. Brad Says:

Have seen Tull many, many times since the mid-seventies and they have been thru many changes and I have to admit it took me a while to get use to the different line-ups but the Doane, Andy, Jonathan, Martin and Ian line up over the past decade plus was something I was just getting use to and now Andy and Jonathan have gone but I am glad to see Doane still hanging with the band. I always enjoy when he comes out from behind the drums and plays the bongos on Water Carrier and Fat Man, etc…and cut Ian some slack what is he now 60…61, you should hope your voice holds up so well using it as much has he has and I agree it is and was distinct even in the “good ol’ days” an acquired taste if you will. Merry Christmas

  15. Colin Says:

Doane is a true genius drummer and should be included in the rock ‘n roll hall of fame for his contribution to music. Thanks Doane for a brilliant set of shows in Australia (met you at the Enmore) please come back on your 40th Anniversary “World” tour in 2008.

I saw Tull in Salem Oregon and Doanne did an excellent job along with the other boys. I stll play drums along Aqualung and Locomotive breath in my home basement, even though they were originally played by Clive Bunker.

Let’s face it people. The only good music is Tull music. Happened to catch Ian with the orchestral tour here in Pennsylvania at the FW Kirby Centre for Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Outstanding to say the least. The addition of Ms. Calhoun on violin made for an extraordinary evening. Ian’s a true artist who never stops thinking about what people want to hear.
